Batu Caves, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia

Batu Caves, situated 13 km north of Kuala Lumpur, is a limestone caves with a Patmalai Murugan Temple in it. It also has a statue of Lord Muruga, sacred God for the Hindus. The statue is 147 meters tall which makes it the tallest Lord Muruga Statue in the world.



The Temple is situated in the Caves which can be reached by climbing 250 steps. Further 50+ steps has to be climbed to reach the main temple. You can watch the pooja and even get a special recitation ("Aarchanai"). The temple is little damped because of the drippings from the limestone caves.



You can also find a Lord Hanuman's Statue, Valluvar Park, and little cafes with South Indian delicacies around the temple.

Warning: The Steps leading to the temple is quite steep and narrow. You will also find a lot of monkeys. To aviod monkey menace, don't carry the polythene bags in front of them.

Best Time to Visit: During Thaipusum, a hindu festival especially for Lord Muruga. Devotees will bring pal kutam [Milk Pot], carry kavadi and pull dhir.



Recommendation: Avoiding buying any in the temple in the name of pooja or prasadam

Additional Information: Generally foot-wears are not allowed in hindu temples. You have to remove the foot wear before entering the Temple for worship.

Getting there: Taxi from KLCC or Train to Terminal Putra and a Taxi from there
